Work on monologues and scenes with JSC Artistic Director Joanne Zipay, in a 5-week class focused on bringing the words and characters to vibrant life on the stage.
"Joanne is adept at guiding an actor through the technical challenges of speaking Shakespeare's verse for the purpose of deepening the actor's understanding of character and ability to create that character in performance. She was my first teacher in acting Shakespeare and I'm thankful to her for providing me a solid technical base that has served me well in my further training and performing.

Actors should be prepared on the first day of the workshop to work on at least one Shakespeare monologue – audition pieces or pieces you’re just beginning to develop are perfect material for this class.
Also a perfect setting to prepare grad school audition material!
Ms. Zipay may also recommend further monologue and scenework for each student at the first session of the workshop.
Coaching of scenes and monologues will be supplemented with warm-ups and exercises for the entire class.

Ms. Zipay has taught, directed, and performed in the theatre for over 25 years, and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the classical acting program at the Old Globe Theatre/University of San Diego. She has studied with such eminent master teachers as John Barton, Richard Easton, Cicely Berry, Patsy Rodenburg, Larry Moss, and Stella Adler; and she has taught and directed for a wide variety of programs and theatres including the Stella Adler Conservatory, the Dallas Theatre Center,
the Richmond VA Shakespeare Festival, the Old Globe Theatre, Collin College Dallas TX, the National Shakespeare Conservatory, the Princeton NJ Repertory Shakespeare Festival, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Theatre for a New Audience, and numerous colleges and universities, as well as guiding the training and development of the Judith Shakespeare Company to award-winning standards. Ms. Zipay recently directed the Off-Broadway premiere production of Elizabeth Rex with Nicu’s Spoon Theatre, and is currently on faculty at Pace University Manhattan.
